Alabama now bans machine gun conversion devices, commonly called Glock switches. Governor Kay Ivey signed the ban into law Wednesday. It was already a federal crime to possess one, but law enforcement leaders say a state ban was needed.

Today, we proved that progress can happen and that the Alabama legislature can come together to help solve real problems," said Rep. Philip Ensler.

The bill’s enactment follows ongoing advocacy to ban Glock Switches by the Big 10 Mayors. In February, the Mayors joined Gov. Ivey and legislative leadership to announce the “Safer Alabama” package of legislation, which included this Glock Switch ban.
