Guerschon Yabusele, Joel Embiid
Along with the superstar big man, Guerschon Yabusele (eye) will also miss this game against New York, which makes Philadelphia shorthanded in the frontcourt once again. Andre Drummond will likely have to shoulder the load in the paint against Karl-Anthony Towns and company.
Yabusele will start in Monday's game against Chicago, Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice.com reports. With Joel Embiid (knee) on the shelf, Yabusele will step back into the starting five. The big man has seen significant run with the starters this season,
Yabusele will come off the bench in Thursday's game against the Celtics, Austin Krell of OnPattison.com reports. Yabusele will shift to Philadelphia's bench in Joel Embiid's (knee) return Thursday, but the former should still play a significant role from the second unit.
Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse felt the team was playing better with Guerschon Yabusele on the court instead of Embiid.
Drummond ended with 10 points (1-3 FG, 8-8 FT), eight rebounds and one steal over 14 minutes during Monday's 142-110 loss to the Bulls. Drummond has been out of favor with the 76ers lately, but Guerschon Yabusele suffered a corneal abrasion Monday and Joel Embiid (knee) is weighing treatment options.
Joel Embiid remained on the 76ers’ bench with Saturday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets on the line because Guerschon Yabusele was a more impactful option. The event was likely an embarrassing moment for the 7-foot-2 center who was the NBA’s most dominant player the past two seasons.
Meanwhile, Guerschon Yabusele suffered contact to both eyes in the Sixers' horrid blowout loss to the Chicago Bulls, which ruled him out for much of the second half. Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said after the game that Yabusele had suffered a corneal abrasion in one eye and had swelling around the other.
