Cardinal Blase Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, shared the following remarks during tonight’s  Interreligious Prayer Service at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago commemorating the third anniversary of the war in Ukraine: “Our hearts are heavy as we mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Cardinal Blase Cupich, the archbishop of Chicago, spoke at Holy Name Cathedral on Monday, marking the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with a call for truth, justice and lasting peace.

Monday marks three years since Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine, resulting in thousands of people being killed and millions displaced. Chicago’s Ukrainian Village is home to one of the largest populations of Ukrainians in the U.

In a setback for the Trump administration the assembly approved a European-backed Ukrainian resolution, which demands an immediate withdrawal of Russian troops and calls Moscow’s aggression a violation of the U.

Hundreds gathered downtown Saturday, waving Ukrainian flags and carrying signs reading “Ukraine is not for sale” and “Putin the war criminal.”
