The Boston Bruins made a costly gamble when they signed Elias Lindholm to a long contract this offseason; one that seems unlikely to pay off.
Tufte was recalled from AHL Providence on Tuesday on an emergency basis. Tufte has not recorded a point in three games with the Bruins this season. The 26-year-old will likely be sent back to the AHL once Brad Marchand and Elias Lindholm return to Boston following the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.
BOSTON -- Mitch Marner scored his second goal of the game at 4:08 of overtime, and the Toronto Maple Leafs rallied late to defeat the Boston Bruins 5-4 at TD Garden on Tuesday. Marner skated into a pass from Auston Matthews and scored on a breakaway, making a move to his forehand before tucking a shot around the left pad of Jeremy Swayman.
With the 4 Nations Face-Off over, the Bruins will resume play on Saturday night against the Anaheim Ducks at TD Garden.
“It’s tough to take positives out of it, especially where we are in the standings,” said Morgan Geekie, who scored the tying goal late. “We let those points slip away. It took a little while to get going tonight. It shows resiliency to battle back but at this time of year I don’t think one point is going to do it.”
The Bruins more than once had two points well within their grasp, but fell in overtime after a bad penalty changed the momentum.
Leo Carlsson scored with 1:21 left in overtime to give Anaheim a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins and extend the Ducks’ winning streak to four straight games.
We will look at all opportunities to improve our team now but even more importantly moving forward,” said Bruins GM Sweeney.
With six games remaining between now and the Trade Deadline, it’s hard to argue that the Boston Bruins are legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. This is especially true with Hampus Lindholm unlikely to return this season due to injury.
