DOJ Lets Google Keep AI Investments, Fate of Chrome Still Up in the Air
As part of the remedies phase of its antitrust case against Google, the DOJ says prohibiting Google’s AI investments could 'cause unintended consequences in the evolving AI space.'
According to Bloomberg, Google met with the DOJ team last week to make the case for a lighter regulatory touch. Specifically, Google has stepped up its claims that forcing it to spin-off Chrome and limit AI investments could harm US national security, as well as security at the user level.
Google doesn’t want the US government to force it to sell off Chrome, so it’s calling it a threat to national security.
