China's top leaders have urged "all-out efforts" to treat those injured in a car attack in southern China, one of the deadliest incidents in the country's recent history, as online posts asking what the attack says about Chinese society were censored.

The police in the city of Zhuhai detained a man who they said had driven into people who were exercising at a sports center, state news media reported.

Police say 35 people were killed in Zhuhai, China, when a driver rammed his car into a crowded sports center a day before the city hosts a military air show.

The attack took place Monday when police said 62-year-old man drove an SUV into a group of people outside a sports stadium in the city of Zhuhai.
