A Spirit Airlines flight from Florida was damaged by gunfire en route to Haiti and diverted to the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic, the airline said.

The move comes after a Spirit Airlines plane was hit by gunfire and had to reroute to the Dominican Republic. Haiti was cut off from the rest of the world a result of spiralling gang violence.United States aviation authorities prohibited all civilian flights to Haiti for a month on Tuesday.
